Next up was one of two warthogs on exhibit at the zoo. A lot of people think these creatures are ugly but they are very beautiful in my opinion. Sure Pumba from the "Lion King" looked better than this photograph but I'm sure Disney makes everything look better in cartoons. I'm glad he or she had another one of its own kind to hang out. If I was a creature in a zoo I would prefer being around my own species.
Next we move on to the elephants. Usually they are closer to the display areas but today they appeared more wanting to go back into their homes inside the zoo outside of view. Perhaps they have days like everyone else where they just want to be away from the world and its troubles, torments, and routines.
The giraffe family looked nice on the day we went to visit. The Montgomery Zoo has a special dried grass feeding display where you can get up close and personal to them for a cost of $2.00 or $2.50 but on this particular day I just enjoyed them from afar. I think they were enjoying the extra hay and the attention from the little kids feeding them.
Next on the journey here's another water fall/lake. There are plenty at the zoo and this shot was the closest I could get to the bird near the water. The telephoto lense on my cheap camera needs to telephoto a little bit further I say.
This little errrr, big guy is a tortoise, not a turtle. Tortise meaning something that makes a tortoise...I think this create is more of a land animal and more dry climate than a turtle. Perhaps I should review Wikipedia but I don't have enough time. He must have been at least 150 pounds.
I like this picture...the fall leaves on the train that goes by on the hour and half hour around the whole zoo. It is turning fall ever so gradually in the south and this picture was nice...it reminds me of upcoming cooler days and less humidity. The blanket of leaves is a very nice touch.
Next we have two ducks and the flamingo family. I'm amazed at the way a flamingo can bend its legs to sleep and rest during the day. Imagine if we could been out knee at the joint opposite of how we currently do that. The sign says the birds bite but I'd like some time to get up close enough to snap an extreme close up. I like the coloring of both the ducks and the flamingos.
Next up we visited monkey island and I especially like this photograph of the monkey looking at the other monkey seeing I assume if there are any bugs or other items that might make a tasty lunch. On the day I was there with my partner, they were eating honey dew melon slices. It was very sweet watching them eat and share the food with each other.
The we visited this creature but I can't remember what it is or was. It's a rodent but just not sure exactly of the name. Does it look familiar to you?
Finally on the visit, this is a maned wolf. He was resting peacefully while a few ducks only yards away were playing in the water. I guess he didn't want duck for lunch or dinner...he looked so peaceful resting in the humidity and heat filled day.
Well I guess that's about it for now. I'm traveling to D.C. very soon so I'll post some pictures and blog about the trip very soon.
Have a great week ahead and thank you for stopping by!!
